Suspected robber kingpin killed in ‘gunfight’ in Narayanganj
Narayanganj: A suspected robber chief was killed in a reported gunfight with the members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in the Godnail area under Siddhirganj thana of Narayanganj in the early hours of Sudnay.
The deceased is Delwar Hossain alias Delu Master, a resident of Khanpur area of Sadar thana in Narayanganj said RAB.
The RAB officials said being tipped off that a gang of robbers are preparing for robbery, a team of RAB conducted drive in the area at about 1:00am. Sensing the presence of RAB, the robbers opened fire to them. RAB also fired back, triggering a gunfight, and one of the robbers, Delwar Hossain, was caught in the line of fire and suffered bullet injuries.
Later, he was died on the way to hospital. However, the other robbers managed to flee from the spot.
The body was sent to Narayanganj General Hospital for autopsy. RAB also claimed to recover fire arms, bullets, and sharp weapons from the spot.
The Siddhirganj police Officer-in-charge Mahbub Hossain said Delwar was an enlisted robber leader. He was also known as a drug king in the area.
Recently, Delwar’s gang involved in several gunfights with the Detective Branch (DB) of Narayanganj police, but the law-enforcers could not detain him. He was also wanted in more than a few cases with Sadar and Siddhirganj polices, said the OC.
Mahbub Hossain said two of the robbers of Delwar’s gang are now in the jail.
