Man gets death penalty for killing daughter in Pirojpur

Pirojpur: A court in Pirojpur on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to death for killing his daughter at Mothbaria upazila in Pirojpur in 2005, reports UNB.
The condemned convict is Moharaj Howlader, a resident of Bhechki village of the upazila. The court also fined him TK 20,000.
According to the prosecution, Moharaj strangled his daughter Jesmin Akhter Rinku, 8, to death and dumped the body in a canal near the house for staging the incident as drowning on 4 May 2005 to get life insurance money TK 1.20 lakh.
Later, he filed an unnatural death case in connection with the incident.
However, victim’s mother found an injury mark on neck of the body and filed a murder case with Mothbaria Police Station.
After examining all the records and 17 witnesses, S M Zillur Rahman, additional district and sessions judge, handed down the verdict.
