Kurigram: A Kurigram mobile court on Wednesday sentenced the principal of a local madrasa and its seven students to one month’s jail as the students, despite studying in upper grades, appeared for the Junior Dakhil Certificate (JDC) examinations at Alia Kamil Madrasha centre in Nageshawri upazila.

The convicts are Principal Rahmutullah Iqbal of Poydanga Alia Kalim Madrasha, Rabiul Awal, an Alim student, Faidul Islam, an Alim examinee, Moklesur Rahman, Al Amin, Al Amin Hossain, a Dakhil examinee, Umar Faruk, and Habibur Rahman, a class IX student of the madrasa.

Police said a team of police detained seven students of Poydanga Alim Madrasha from the exam centre during the examination on Akaid and Fikah.

After interrogation, they said the superintendent of their madrasa sent them to appear in the examinations by filling up the examination form forcefully.

Later, police arrested the principal of the madrasa.

As the eight arrested were produced before the mobile court of Nageshawri upazila nirbahi officer Abu Hayat Mohammad Rahmatullah, he sentenced them to one month’s imprisonment each.
