UC chairman held over temple attacks in Thakurgaon
Thakurgaon: Police arrested a newly elected union council chairman on Friday in connection with the attack on two temples in Nargun union of Sadar upazila.
The arrestee is Poygam Ali, chairman of the Nargun union council, reports UNB.
Mashiur Rahman, officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said miscreants swooped on Pokati Durga Temple and nearby Kali Temple in the early hours of Friday.
They dragged a Kali idol and a Durga idol from the temples and set those on fire.
Police called the UC chairman to the police station in the afternoon and arrested him after a case was filed in this connection.
Meanwhile, superintendent of Thakurgaon Police Farhat Ahmed visited the spot.
