Brahmanbaria:  Nine more people were arrested for their alleged involvement in the recent attack on the Hindu community at Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria on Friday.

Police conducted separate drives in different places of Nasirnager and arrested them on Saturday night.

A total of 53 people have been arrested in three days for their connection with the attacks on the Hindus.

Nasirnagar police Officer-in-charge Mohammad Jafar Ahmed said the detainees were taken to the police station.

Meanwhile, around 500 members of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard of Bangladesh (BGB), and other law-enforcer organisations were deployed in several places of the upazila including the Sadar.

The minister of Fisheries and Livestock Muhammed Sayedul Hoque will hold a press conference at the local Dak Bunglow on Sunday afternoon.

However, Krishak Sramik Janata League President Quader Siddique will visit the spot on Sunday.

Earlier, on Friday night, police arrested 33 people for their alleged link in the attack on Nasirnagar Hindus.

Earlier on 30 October, several temples and houses were vandalised in Haripur union of Nasirnagar upazila during a demonstration allegedly over a Facebook post demeaning the holy Kaaba.

Rasraj Das, in his thirties, of Harinber village, allegedly posted a photo on his Facebook wall belittling the holy Kaaba on 29 October.

Several thousand people, including activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and Ahle Sunnat, brought out separate rallies demanding capital punishment of the young man.

At one stage, the protesters vandalised some houses and temples.

However, two cases were filed against 500 anonymous people with Nasirnagar police over the desecration on Hindu temples on 31 October.

Yet again, a gang of miscreants set fire to five Hindu houses at the upazila in the early hours of 4 November.
