Suspected robber killed in Khulna ‘gunfight’

Khulna: A man was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Phultala upazila in Khulna in the early hours of Tuesday.

The deceased is Belal Hossain alias Boma Belal, in his thirties, said the Phultala police.

The Phultala Police Officer-in-charge Asaduzzaman said being tipped of that a gang of robbers were preparing for robbery in the village of Mukteshwari at Damodar union of Phultala upazila, a team of patrol police went to the spot at about 2:30am.

Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire to police and police also fired them back. Later, police found a body on the spot.

However, local people identified the body as Belal Hossain in the morning. The body was kept at Phultala police station.

The OC said police recovered a shutter gun, bombs, and, bullets from the spot.

Asaduzzaman said Belal was wanted in 10 cases.

Four police members were also injured during the reported gunfight, claimed the police.
