‘Robber’ killed in Habiganj ‘gunfight’

An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight with police in Jangalbahula area of Habiganj town on early Wednesday.
Identity of the deceased could not be confirmed, reports UNB.
Acting on secret information that a gang of robbers was taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a police team conducted a drive there at about 3:30am, said Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge Yeasinul Haque said sensing presence of the law enforcers, the robbers opened fire at them, prompting a retaliation that triggered a gunfight.
At one stage, a member of the robber gang was caught in the line of fire and died on the spot while others managed to flee the scene.
Police recovered the body and sent it to Habiganj Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Five policemen were also injured in the incident.
Police recovered seven sharp weapons from the spot.
