Man gets death penalty for killing farmer in Rangpur
Rangpur: A court in Rangpur on Wednesday sentenced a man to death and five other people to life imprisonment for killing a farmer in Pirgachha upazila in 2007.
The condemned convict is Hashem Ali while the lifers are Hanif Miah, Raju, Salam, Shahidul and Rehena Begum.
The court also acquitted four accused as the prosecution failed to prove charges brought against them, reports UNB.
According to the prosecution, the convicts, led by Hashem Ali of Chhota Zilia village in Pirgachha upazila, hacked farmer Abul Kashem, son of Gadu Fakir of the village, to death over previous enmity on 23 July 2007.
Victim’s elder brother Samsul Alam filed a case against 10 people with Pirgachha Police Station.
After examining the records and witnesses, Judge of the additional district and session’s judge court Abu Zafar Mohammad Kamruzzaman handed down the verdict.
