Noakhali: A driver of CNG-run auto-rickshaw was shot to death by some miscreants at Avirampur village of Begumganj upazila of Noakhali early on Sunday.

The victim is Jewel, in his thirties, a resident of Avirampur village.

According to the family, Jewel was returning home at about 1:00am after parking his auto-rickshaw in the garage. As he reached near his house, a group of miscreants fired bullets at him, leaving him critically injured.

The miscreants also beat Sohel, a shopkeeper who tried to save Jewel after the firing.

Later, Jewel was taken to Noakhali Sadar Hospital where died at about 4:30am.

The Begumganj Police Officer-in-charge Sajedur Rahman Sajid said police recovered the body and sent it to hospital morgue for autopsy.
