Brahmanbaria: Amid huge outcry following the recent attacks on the Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila, a group of miscreants set fire on a house of a Hindu resident at Changapur village in the upazila of Brahmanbaria.

Quoting villagers, officer-in-charge of Nasirnagar police M Abu Jafar said a group of miscreants set fire on the house of one Chhotto Lal Das at about 5:00am.

However, nobody was injured in the incident.

Watching the flame, neighbours of Chhotto Lal rushed to the spot and doused the fire.

Later, Lt Col Shah Ali, commanding officer of Border Guard Bangladesh’ s (BGB’s) battalion 12, Nasirnagar upazila chairman ATM Maniruzzaman and upazila executive officer Mohammad Liakat Ali visited the spot.

On 30 October, a group of religious zealots carried out a synchronised attack on the Hindus, vandalising around 100 homes and temples and looting their valuables, including cash, gold ornaments and idols, television and mobile phones. The two-hour mayhem reportedly followed a Facebook post from the account of a local fisherman, ‘hurting the religious sentiment’ of the Muslims.

The incident sparked huge public outcry across the country.
