Joypurhat: An alleged robber was injured in a gunfight with police on the Joypurhat-Santahar Road in Kanthalbari Bridge area of Akkelpur upazila in Joypurhat early on Monday.

The injured robber is Rashed, a resident of Abadpur village in the upazila. He is accused in four robbery cases, claimed the Joypurhat Police.

Joypurhat superintendent of police Ashok Kumar Paul said a gang of robbers attacked a CNG-run auto-rickshaw carrying a patrol team of police in the area at about 1:30am.

Later police opened fire at the gang which left Rashed wounded while other robbers managed to flee the spot.

The injured was admitted at Joypurhat Modern Hospital.

Police also recovered some locally made arms from the spot.

Two police members were also injured during the shootout.
