6 more held over attacks on Nasirnagar Hindus
Brahmanbaria: Police on Monday night arrested six more people for their alleged involvement in recent attacks on the Hindus at Nasirnagar upazila in Brahmanbaria.
Police conducted separate drives in different areas of the upazila and arrested them at night, said Nasirnagar Police Station Abu Jafar officer-in-charge.
A total of 84 people have so far been arrested in connection with the attacks on the Hindu community.
Earlier on 30 October, several temples and houses were vandalised in Haripur union of Nasirnagar upazila during a demonstration allegedly over a Facebook post demeaning the holy Kaaba.
Rasraj Das, in his thirties, of Harinber village, allegedly posted a photo on his Facebook wall belittling the holy Kaaba on 29 October.
Several thousand people, including activists of Hefajat-e-Islam and Ahle Sunnat, brought out separate rallies demanding capital punishment of the young man.
At one stage, the protesters vandalised some houses and temples.
However, two cases were filed against 500 anonymous people with Nasirnagar police over the desecration on Hindu temples on 31 October.
Yet again, a gang of miscreants set fire to five Hindu houses at the upazila in the early hours of 4 November.
