Case filed over attack on Santals in Gaibandha

Gaibandha: A case was filed against 600 people in connection with the attack on Santal people near Rangpur Sugar Mill in Gobindaganj upazila of Gaibandha.
The Gobindaganj Police Officer-in-charge Subrata Kumar Sarkar said Swapan Murmu, a leader of the indigenous community, filed the case with the police station on Wednesday night, 10 days after the incident.
Besides, police also arrested five people from different parts of the upazila in connection with the incident, said OC.
Three Santal men were killed and 27 people, including nine policemen, injured in a series of clashes following an attempt by sugar mill workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill to evict the Santals from the mill area with the help of the law enforcers in Gobindaganj upazila on November 6.
Later, police filed a case against 350 people in connection with the incident.
