Gazipur: A Gazipur tribunal on Thursday sentenced four people to life term imprisonment in a case filed over gang rape of a girl in Madhupur upazila of Tangail district in 2012.

The lifers are Nuruzzaman, Harun-ur-Rashid, Shahjahan, Moniruzzaman and Bithi Akhter.

The court also fined them TK one lakh each.

According to the prosecution, when the victim went to her friend Bithi’s house to attend a marriage ceremony in Madhupur on December 06, 2012 Bithi handed over the girl to four other convicts

They took the victim to Nuruzzaman’s house and violated her one after another which left her critically injured.

Later victim’s brother filed a case with Madhupur Police Station under the Children and Women Repression Prevention Act.

Following medical tests and statement of the victim, Mujibur Rahman, officer-in-charge of the police station, submitted a chargesheet against the five. Later, the case was transferred to Gazipur Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal as per the High Court order. 

After examining the records and 18 witnesses, Syed Jahed Mansur, judge of the tribunal, handed down the verdict.
