NCC polls: 5 aspirants collect nomination forms

Narayanganj: Five mayoral aspirants have so far bought nomination papers to contest the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) polls slated for December 22.

The mayoral aspirants are Dr Selina Hayat Ivy of Awami League, BNP’s Md Sultan Mahmud, LDP’s Kamal Prodhan, Biplabi Workers Party’s Mahbubur Rahman and Bangladesh Kalyan Party’s Rashed Ferdous.

Of them, the latter four collected the nomination papers on Sunday while Rashed Ferdous on Thursday, said returning officer of the NCC election Nuruzzaman Talukder.

Besides, 182 general councillor aspirants and 36 women councillor hopefuls collected nomination forms as of 5pm on Sunday, he told UNB.

However, another BNP-nominated mayoral aspirant Taimur Alam Khandaker is yet to buy the nomination paper.

Ivy told UNB that she will submit her nomination paper to the returning officer on November 24, the last of the deadline.
The nomination papers will be scrutinised on November 26 and 27 while the last date for withdrawal of candidature is December 4.

Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on November 14 announced the election schedule for the NCC.
