Rajshahi mayor suspended
Dhaka: Rajshahi city mayor Mosaddek Hossain Bulbul has been temporarily suspended as court accepted charge-sheets over four cases filed against him, says a government notice.
The local government division of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives issued the notification on Thursday ordering Bulbul’s suspension from the office of mayor of the northern city of the country.
Authorities suspended Bulbul temporarily under the Article 12, Section 1 of the Local Government Act 2009, said the notice.
Earlier Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) had requested Police Head Quarter that Bulbul be suspended. RMP issued a letter in this regard on 23 January. Police HQ in its turn relayed the letter to Home Ministry.
Bulbul, also a central executive member of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), is accused in four cases, including the killing of police member Siddharta Sarkar.
A total of 17 cases have been filed against him since 5 January last year over different violence and subversive incidents.
