Domestic help to die for killing engineer in Dhaka
Dhaka: A court on Wednesday sentenced a domestic help to death and his associate to life term imprisonment for killing an engineer of Roads and Highways Department in 2011.
The condemned convict was identified as Nurul Islam while lifer as Lavlu Rahman. Of them, Lavlu was tried in absentia.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge handed down the verdict.
According to the prosecution, Nurul Islam, a domestic help of Golam Rahman, former additional chief engineer of Roads and Highways Department, made his employer unconscious after mixing sleeping pills with his meal in absence of the engineer’s family members at his Kalabagan residence on May 11, 2011.
Nurul killed Golam Rahman after hitting him on his head with the help of his cousin Lavlu. They looted 70 tolas of gold jewellery and Tk 70,000 in cash from the house.
A case was filed in this connection. Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Nurul Islam three days after the incident from Jessore district.
