Dhaka: Dhaka North City Corporation on Saturday shut down Shyamoli Shishu Mela, the children’s amusement park at Shyamoli in the city.

DNCC Mayor Anisul Huq told journalists that the lease of Shishu Mela expired long before, but the city corporation could not take its possession for some legal barriers.

Now the DNCC has taken the possession of the park following a court verdict, he said, adding that the park would remain closed unless it is leased out again.

The mayor said the park was leased out for Tk 1.45 lakh. The goods inside the park will not be damaged, he added.

The park was set up in 1994. Later, it was leased out, but the duration of the lease expired a few years ago.
