Suspected JMB man killed in Bagerhat ‘gunfight’
Bagerhat: A suspected member of banned militant organisation Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) was killed in a reported gunfight with police at Sadar upazila in Bagerhat early on Sunday.
Identity of the deceased could not be known immediately. He was in his forties, said police.
District superintendent of police (SP) Pankaj Chandra Roy said police conducted a drive in the C&B bazar area after being tipped off that a group of JMB members gathered there. Sensing the presence of police, the JMB members opened fire to police. Police also fired back, which triggered a gunfight between police and JMB members. Later, police recovered a bullet-hit body of a suspected JMB member and took him to Khulna Medical College Hospital.
However, the doctors declared him dead, said the SP.
Pankaj Chandra Roy said police recovered two shooter guns, two bullets from the spot. Three police members were also injured during the gunfight, claimed the district police.
