Chittagong: A security guard of Al-Arafah Islami Bank Limited was hacked to death by robbers at its Muradpur branch in the port city on Friday night.

The victim was Ibrahim, 35.

Officer-in-charge of Pachlaish Police Station Mohiuddin Mahmood said wife of slain Ibrahim called the owner of the building in the evening as her husband did not return home till the evening.

Later, the owner along with other people went to the branch and found Ibrahim's body lying on the floor.

Police and some officials of the branch rushed to the spot.

Talking to reporters, additional commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Banos Kamur Majumdar said the CCTV footage of the bank shows that a group of 3-4 armed robbers wearing masks entered the branch on first floor of the six-storey building after cutting the grill of backside windows.

They tried to break the vault but failed and they might have chopped the guard to death with sharp weapons, he said.

‘There was no sign of looting, and police are trying to investigate the incident by analysing CCTV footage,’ Banos Kamur Majumdar added.
