Narsingdi: A court in Narsingdi on Tuesday sentenced six people to death for killing an ice factory worker in Narsingdi town in 2008.

The condemned convicts are Sujon alias Bagha Sujon alias Tiger, 25, of Ramnathpur village in Gauripur upazila of Mymensingh; Sohag alias Sohag Chandra Das, 25, of Kandarpara of Narsingdi; Ershad, 30, of Matlab upazila in Chandpur; and Saddam, 30, Samir alias Samir Chandra Das, 32, and Bimal, 33, of Buakur village in Sadar upazila of Narsingdi.

The court also fined the accused Tk 10,000 each, reports UNB.

According to the prosecution, Sujon, one of the six accused, had an altercation with the victim, Ayub, a worker of ‘Kabir Ice Factory’ in the district town and son of Abdul Hakim Sarkar of Boakur village in sadar upazila, as he was sacked from the ice factory following an allegation made by Ayub on 29 August 2008.

Sujon called Ayub out of his house over mobile phone on the same day and took him to a secret place.

Later, he along with friends slaughtered Ayub to death and dumped the body in the Meghna River.

Police recovered the slaughtered body from the Meghna River near Damervaoura village in Sadar upazila on 1 September 2008.

Later, victim’s father Hakim filed a murder case against the six people.

On 1 April 2009, police submitted a charge-sheet against the six people to local court following an investigation.

After examining nine witnesses and documents, Judge of Additional District and Session Judge’s court M Shahin Uddin handed down the verdict in absence of the accused.
