Cop suspended over JU teacher assault
Dhaka: The authorities concerned on Sunday suspended a police sergeant on charge of assaulting a Jahangirnagar University teacher in Dhaka on Saturday night.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police acting deputy commissioner (media) Jahangir Alam said Sarkar sergeant Imran has been suspended and closed to the control room.
Two separate probe bodies -- one headed by Quddus Amin, deputy commissioner of traffic (North), and another by Iqbal Hossain, deputy commissioner (Uttara crime division), were formed to investigate the incident.
The committees have been asked to submit their reports within three days.
Earlier, Rakib Ahmed, an assistant professor of Jahangirnagar University, was allegedly physically assaulted by Imran, a traffic sergeant in Uttara, while Rakib was going to the Airport Railway Station at about 10:00pm.
