Rizvi granted 6-month interim bail
The High Court has granted six months of interim bail to Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi in two cases filed against him over burning vehicles, arson and possession of explosive substances.
A HC bench of judges Rezaul Haque and Khasruzzaman passed the bail order on Sunday.
The bench also asked the law secretary, home secretary, and others concerned why Rizvi would not be granted permanent bail.
Jainul Abedin took part in the hearing as Rizvi’s lawyer, while deputy attorney general Fazlur Rahman Khan was the public prosecutor.
Jainul Abedin said they sought bail in three cases, but the HC granted in two cases.
Next hearing on bail petition in another case will be held later, Jainul added.
The two cases in which Rizvi was granted bail were filed with Jatrabari and Badda police in January this year.
According to the prosecution, following incidents of arson attack on public vehicles Jatra Bari police two cases against Rizvi on 24 January.
Two days later Badda police on 26 January lodged another case against the BNP leader for his alleged connection with arson attack on vehicles and attack on police.
