NCC polls: EC’s meeting over security Dec 10

Dhaka: The Election Commission (EC) will hold a meeting with law enforcement agencies and intelligences on December 10 to finalise the security measures for the elections to Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) and 61 district councils.
The meeting will be held at NEC auditorium in the city’s Sher-e Bangla Nagar area with Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin in the chair, said EC Secretariat’s Deputy Secretary Farhad Ahammad Khan on Monday.
Though the meeting was earlier scheduled to be held on December 14, the EC changed the date for the meeting, he added.
The Commission will finalise the security measures for the elections and decide whether the army will be deployed for the NCC elections.
Top representatives of different law enforcement agencies, including Police, Rab, BGB, Ansar and Coastguard, Armed Force Division, intelligence agencies and Home Ministry will join the meeting and place their suggestions for ensuring security during the elections.
Four election commissioners, EC Secretary, returning officers of the elections, Deputy Commissioner concerned will also attend the meeting.
The NCC election will be held on December 22, while polls to 61 district councils on December 28.
