Dhaka: A writ petition was filed with the High Court on Monday seeking a direction for taking legal steps against the police who assaulted Chhatra Union activists who were protesting near the Officers’ Club against sexual harassments of women on the Dhaka University campus on 14 April.

A Supreme Court lawyer, Eunus Ali Akond, filed the writ petition with the relevant section of the High Court.

There might be a hearing on the writ at an HC bench comprising Justice Qazi Rezaul Haque and Justice Abu Taher M Saifur Rahman on Tuesday, the petitioner said.

On Sunday, about a hundred activists of Bangladesh Chhatra Union came under police attack near Officers’ Club on Shaheed Captain Mansur Ali Sarani as they tried to lay siege to the DMP headquarters in protest against the perpetrators of sexual harassment against women on the Dhaka University campus on 14 April not being arrested.

A number of young men sexually assaulted some women at Suhrawardy Udyan gate near Dhaka University’s TSC on 14 April during Bangla New Year celebration.
