EC wants election issues in textbooks

Dhaka: The Election Commission wants school and college textbooks to widely focus on election-related issues for motivating the young generation to be voters in time and exercise their franchise.
The Commission has also taken an initiative to put forward a proposal to the government to incorporate election and voter-related information in the textbooks of class-V to Class-XII and teachers’ training courses in a greater way.
The EC Secretariat has formed a four-member committee to prepare the proposal to include election information in textbooks and teachers’ fundamental training courses.
The committee, headed by EC Deputy Secretary Farhad Ahammad Khan, is now drafting a proposal in this regard after reviewing the existing election information in primary, secondary and higher secondary-level curricula.
Once the proposal gets the Commission approval, it will be sent to the Primary and Mass Education Ministry and the Education Ministry.
A committee member said they reviewed the present textbooks to depict the existing scenario of election issues in primary, secondary and higher secondary curricula, and those issues included in a scattered way with little focus.
