Yet another blogger hacked to death

Sylhet: Another blogger and Rupali Bank officer was hacked to death in broad day light at Subid Bazar area in Sylhet on Tuesday morning.

The Sylhet Metropolitan police said Ananta Bijoy Das Ripon was hacked by miscreants in front of his Subid Bazar residence at about 9:00am.

Later local people took him to Sylhet Osmani Medical College and Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.  

Sylhet Gonojagoron Moncho spokesman Debashish Das said Ananta was an activist of the Moncho. He used to write in several blogs.

Earlier, blogger Rajib Haider, Avijit Roy, and Washiqur Rahman Babu were hacked to death by miscreants in Dhaka.

Washiqur Rahman Babu, was hacked to death by miscreants in Tejgoan industrial area on 30 March.

Blogger Avijit Roy was hacked to death by unidentified persons on Dhaka University campus on 26 February 2015.

Attackers also hacked and wounded Avijit’s wife Rafida Ahmed Banya who was accompanying him at the time of attack. 

Avijit is the founder of Bangla blog ‘Mukto Mona’ and is a writer. He is the son of former Dhaka University physics professor Ajoy Roy. The professor visited DMCH after the incident.

Prominent writer and Dhaka University professor Late Humayun Azad was also hacked by the assailants at DU area when he was going home after visiting Ekushey Book Fair on 27 February 2004.

In the similar manner, on 15 February 2013, blogger Rajib Haider was killed in Pallabi allegedly for his write-ups in the blog.
