Dhaka: The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) on Sunday arrested a Union Council chairman from Noakhali sadar upazila for allegedly misappropriating food grains from a government safety net scheme.

ACC assistant director Md Moshiur Rahman of its Noakhali Zila office arrested chairman of Nijhum Dwip union council in Hatiya upazila Md Meheraj Uddin from Noakhali sadar, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.

On May 16, 2016, the ACC filed a case against him with Hatiya Police Station in this regard.

According to the first information report, Meheraj Uddin plundered around 50 metric tonnes of rice worth Tk 18 lakh from the Vulnerable Group Development (VGD) programme using fake documents.
