Suspected robber killed in Kushtia ‘gunfight’

Kushtia: A suspected robber was killed and four others were injured in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Barmail in Bheramara upazila of Kushtia early on Monday.

The deceased is Abdus Salam, a member of inter-district robber gang.

Tipped off that a robber gang boarded a Hanif Paribahan bus on the Kushtia-Ishwardi Road to commit robbery, a RAB team conducted a drive in the area at about 1:30am, said Mosaddek Ibne Mujib, company commander of RAB-12.

He said when the RAB members obstructed the bus in the area for search, the suspected robbers opened fire on them, prompting them to retaliate, triggering a gunfight.

After half an hour of the gunfight, the RAB members caught five of the suspected robbers with bullet wounds.

They were taken to Kushtia General Hospital where doctors declared Salam dead.

The four others injured are Delwar, Aynal, Khokon and Alamgir.

The elite forces also recovered a foreign revolver, a foreign pistol, and eight bullets from the spot.
