Chittagong: A defamation case has been filed with a local court against Chittagong University (CU) Vice-chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury for calling a former university teacher a ‘fake freedom fighter’.

Dr Gazi Saleh Uddin, former dean of the CU Social Science Faculty, filed the case with Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Monday.

Judge Abu Saleh Mohammad Noman asked the deputy commissioner of the Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police to submit a report within 30 days after investigation.

The plaintiff claimed that the CU VC while speaking at a function recently described him as a fake freedom fighter which tarnished his image.
