The deceased BCL leader ASK Mosharraf.

Tangail: The authorities suspended all academic activities of Mawlana Bhasani Science and Technology University for an indefinite period after a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) was killed in a factional clash on the campus on Wednesday.

The deceased was ASK Mosharraf, a masters student of criminology and police department and son of Shahidul Islam of Mojatichar Para village in Muktagachha of Mymensingh. He was claimed to be the head of a faction of BCL’s campus unit.

In an emergency circular, the university administration asked all the male students to leave their hall by 8pm on today (Wednesday) while the female students by 10am tomorrow (Thursday).

The university’s proctor Khademul Islam said the supporters of Mosharraf and the supporters of Monir, a student of Computer Science and Engineering Department, got into a silly quarrel at the university’s Cafeteria around 2:45pm.

Following the quarrel, both the groups locked horns in an altercation, wielding sharp weapons at each other. At one stage, supporters of Monir allegedly hacked Mosharraf and his followers, including Badhan and Faisal, with sharp weapons

Two crude bombs were also exploded on the campus during the clash.

The injured were admitted to Tangail Medical College Hospital (TMCH).  As the condition of Mosharraf deteriorated, he was referred to National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedic Rehabilitation (NITOR).

Later, as his condition further deteriorated on his way to NITOR, Mosharraf was admitted to Enam Medical College Hospital in Savar where he succumbed to his injuries.

Earlier on May 9, the two groups locked in another clash with over establishing supremacy on the campus.
