Mymensingh: Police on Wednesday arrested a bus driver after a woman had jumped off a bus window and complained that the bus driver together with his assistant had tried to rape her.

Police said the bus started from Mohakhali in Dhaka for Sherpur. When the bus reached Kazir Shimla at Trishal in Mymensingh, the driver stopped the bus and told the passengers that the bus had broken down.

He asked all, but the woman, to get off the bus, said Mymensingh Kotwali police officer-in-charge Abu Mohammad Fazlul Haque.

He drove the bus for few more minutes and reached Churkhai area in Mymensingh after letting off the passengers.

Nur Uddin stopped the bus again and tried to rape the woman, who managed to jump off the bus through a window and started shouting.

Local people rushed in and caught the driver and called police.

A patrol police team, led by sub-inspector Nurul Huda, went to the spot and arrested Nur Uddin. They also seized the bus, but the assistant managed to flew away.

Officer-in-charge Abu Mohammad Fazlul Haque said the woman was from Karimganj in Keshoreganj. She was scheduled to get on a Keshoreganj-bound but mistakenly got on a Sherpur-bound bus.

Nur Hossain is from Nagua village at Phulpur in Mymensingh.

Filing of a case is underway.
