A college student was found dead at village of Mohadebnagar under Sadar upazila of Satkhira on Saturday morning, five days after his alleged abduction.

The deceased is Gautam Sarker, 19, a student of Simanta Adorsho College in the upazila and son of a Ghona Union Council member Ganesh Sarker, a resident of Mohadebnagar village.

Quoting locals, police said Gautam went missing on last Tuesday.

Ghona Union Council Chairman Fazlur Rahmad Mosha said Gautam along with his friends were watching a football match on TV at a local shop in the evening of December 13.

He left of the shop following a phone call, and went missing.

Later, the boy’s father received phone call from an unknown number demanding Taka 10 lakh as ransom.

Being informed, police conducted a drive and arrested three young men — Shahadat Morol, a resident of Bharukhali village, Shaon, and Monirul Islam Sunny, residents of Bahera village in Debhata upazila — suspecting their involvement with the kidnapping.

Following the statement of the arrestees, police recovered the body of Gautam from a pond of Mohadebnagar village.

Police also arrested two others— Nur Islam and Rezaul Sheikh — from the village.

Later, the agitated villagers also torched the houses of Nur Islam and Rezaul Sheikh.

Additional police officers have been deployed in the area to avoid untoward situation.
