Tofail wants BNP to join next polls
Dhaka: Assuring that the next general election will be held in a free and fair manner under the incumbent government, Awami League senior leader Tofail Ahmed on Friday urged BNP to join the polls without any condition.
“Narayanganj City Corporation election has set an example…the next general election will also be held freely and fairly,” he told a ‘Meet-the-Press’ at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the city.
Claiming that elections are held in a free and fair manner under the Awami League government, Tofail, also Commerce Minister, reiterated the next parliamentary elections will be held under the Sheikh Hasina’s government while a new Election Commission will conduct it.
“I firmly believe BNP will take part in the next general election, to be held any day in 90 days ahead of January 29 in 2019, after taking lessons from Narayanganj city election,” he said.
About the President’s dialogue with the political parties over the formation of the new Election Commission, Tofail said the President will form a search committee for constituting the EC after the talks with the political parties.
