A Chhatra Shibir Rajshahi University (RU) unit leader was killed and two others sustained bullet injuries in a ‘shootout’ with police at Katakhali in the Rajshahi city on early Friday.

The Shibir leader was RU unit information and research affairs secretary Shahbuddin and also a master’s student of Crop Science and Technology Department of the university.

The injured Shibir leaders were Mofizuddin, a fourth year student of Arabic Department and Habibur Rahman, Shibir president of Shaheed Habibur Rahman Hall unit.

Motihar Police in-charge Alamgir Hossain said the three were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital with bullet injuries at about 1:00am. Later, doctors declared Shahbuddin dead and sent the body to the morgue.

The three Shibir men were injured in a gunfight with police at Katakhali and later one of them died at the hospital, the police officer added.
