Bangladesh, Qatar discuss ways to deepen ties

Dhaka: Bangladesh and Qatar have discussed ways and means to further deepen cooperation in bilateral trade and investment, energy and power plants, LNG and green energy sectors.

Both sides stressed the need for enhancing high-level bilateral contacts, including business-to-business contacts, between the two countries.

The issues came up for discussions during a meeting between Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali and Adviser of the Diwan Amiri (Royal Palace of Qatar) of the State of Qatar Dr Hamad Bin Abdulaziz Al-Kawari held on Tuesday.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister officially conveyed the support of Bangladesh for the candidature of Al-Kawari for the post of Director General of United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco), according to the Foreign Ministry here.

Earlier, Al-Kawari who is paying a two-day official visit to Bangladesh seeking the support of Bangladesh for his candidature for the post of Director General of Unesco, met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

He highly praised the socioeconomic development and women empowerment in Bangladesh.

Al-Kawari expressed his conviction that under the able leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and under her ‘Vision 2021’, Bangladesh will prosper in all sectors.

He particularly appreciated peaceful coexistence and tolerance of the people of Bangladesh of all faiths and beliefs, who are living in harmony.

Al-Kawari said that he would cite this as an example to the world.
