Rajbari: An alleged robber was killed in a reported gunfight between his cohorts and police in Chandani Bridge area on the Rajbari-Kushtia regional Highway in Sadar upazila of Rajbari early on Thursday.

Identity of the deceased could not be confirmed yet.

Additional superintendent of police M Tariqul Islam said on a tip-off that a gang of robbers were taking preparation to commit robbery in the area, a team of police launched a drive there at about 3:45am.

Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the gang members opened fire at them, prompting a retaliation that triggered a gunfight.

One of the gang was caught in the line of fire and got injured while his other associates managed to flee the scene.

The injured robber was taken to Sadar Hospital where doctors declared him dead.

Police also recovered a shooter gun and some sharp weapon from the spot.
