Noakhali: An oil trader was burnt to death in a fire that broke out at Chaprashirhat in Companyganj, Noakhali early Saturday.

The deceased was Abdul Halim, a resident of Chaprashihat.

Companyganj police officer-in-charge Sajedur Rahman said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at the fuel shop of Abdul Halim at Chaprashirhat Purba Bazar at about 2:30am when he was sleeping inside the shop.

The fire also engulfed five other adjacent shops.

A fire-fighter rushed in and doused the blaze after half an hour efforts with the help of local people.

Later, they recovered the charred body of Halim from the shop, the OC added.
