Chittagong:  Two siblings were killed by a lightning strike at Napura village in Banshkhali upazila on Saturday morning.

The deceased are Mobarak Hossain, believed to be 10, and his sister Jannatul Bakia, thought to be eight.

Locals said thunderbolt hit Mobarak and Jannatul when they were playing near their house in the area at about 9:15am, leaving the siblings seriously injured.

They were taken to Banshkhali health complex where on-duty doctors declared them dead.

Banshkhali Police officer-in-charge Swapan Majumder confirmed the incident.
