Sheikh Hasina asks for MP Liton's killers to book

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday strongly condemned the killing of Awami League lawmaker from Gaibandha-1 constituency Manzurul Islam Liton and asked the law enforcement agencies to bring the killers to book.
"When Bangladesh is advancing towards development, a vested quarter is making ill efforts to create an anarchic situation in the country to gain their interest ... they have chosen the path of killing and terrorism which would not be tolerated in anyway," the premier said in a condolence message.
Sheikh Hasina said the vested quarter killed Manzurul Islam Liton, MP, following the path of their politics of killing.
Besides, she said, Publicity and Publication Secretary of Khulna City Awami League and Khulna City Swecchasebak League General Secretary Z A Mahmud was shot in Khulna. A pedestrian was killed as the bullet missed the target, she said.
The premier asked the authorities concerned to take legal action against the killers of Liton by hunting them down. She also urged local people to keep a patience.
Sheikh Hasina prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed profound sympathy to the bereaved family.
Liton was shot dead by miscreants at his village home in Gaibandha district this evening, officials and police said.
They said doctors declared Liton dead minutes after he was rushed to the Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with bullet wounds from his home at Sundarganj upazila.
