Brahmanbaria: At least 20 people were injured in a clash between the people of two villages over a land dispute on the Akhaura-Agartala Road in Basudeb union council of Sadar upazila in Brahmanbaria on Sunday.

Quoting local people, police said there has been a longstanding enmity among the people of Kodda and Chandi villages of the union over the ownership of a piece of land.

As a sequel to the enmity, hundreds of people from both villages equipped with lethal weapons locked into a fierce clash near Akhaura-Agartala road, leaving 20 people injured on both sides.

The confrontation halted traffic movement on the road for about one hour.

The clash also spread to Kodda area, halting train communications on Dhaka-Chittagong, Dhaka-Sylhet routes for one and a half hours.

On information, police went to the spot. They fired seven rounds of bullets and lobbed 63 rounds of teargas shells to disperse the villagers.

Moinur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sadar Police Station, said the injured were rushed to Sadar Hospital.
