Dhaka: Jamaat-e-Islami student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir called a 24-hr countrywide hartal for Sunday protesting at the killing and arrest of it leaders and activists.

Shibir president Abdul Jabbar announced the shutdown through a press statement on Friday.

The shutdown will commence at 6:00am on Sunday and end at 6:00am on Monday.

They will also stage demonstration across the country on Saturday in protest against what they said killing, forced disappearance, mass arrest and repression on their leaders and activists.

In the statement, they claimed that the law-enforcers shot seven of their leaders and activists to death and injured over 100 others with bullets during the last one month.

Meanwhile Rajshahi unit Chhatra Shibir called a 48-hour hartal in eight districts of Rajshahi division from Sunday protesting what they said the killing of a leader of its Rajshahi University unit by police.

The shutdown was announced after a Chhatra Shibir leader of Rajshahi University unit was killed and two injured in a ‘shootout’ with police at Katakhali in the city early Friday.
