8 bullet-hit as transport workers clash with BGB in Moulvibazar
Moulvibazar: Over 50 people were injured, including eight bullet-wounded, in a clash between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members, and transport workers and traders in Srimangal upazila headquarters on Thursday afternoon.
Witnesses said local transport workers beat a BGB officer at about 5:30pm following an altercation when he went to Pansi Restaurant to take food, leaving him injured.
On information, BGB members from Sector-9 headquarters went to the spot and beat traders, transport workers and local people. They also allegedly vandalised several shops and vehicles.
The clash ensued when the traders and transport workers encountered them.
The agitated traders and workers also blocked roads in different places of the upazila.
The situation returned to normalcy at about 7:30pm when Deputy Commissioner Tofail Ahmed rushed in and assured them of forming a probe committee and giving the compensation.
Officer-in-charge of Srimangal Police Station Mahbubur Rahman said the situation now remained under control.
The injured were sent to local hospital for treatment, he added.
