Members of Sundarbans-based infamous robber gang ‘Noa Bahini’ surrendered to Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal along with their arms at Kuakata Rakhain Market field in Kalapara upazila of Patuakhali on Saturday morning.
Twelve members of the gang laid down their 25 firearms and 1000 bullets at about 12.30pm, said Major Adnan, deputy commanding officer of RAB-8 Barisal.
Later, the minister distributed TK 20,000 each to 60 robbers who surrendered earlier and now out of jail on bail for their rehabilitation, reports UNB.
He also distributed money to the family members of 12 robbers who are still in jail for their legal support.
The surrendered robbers used to attack trawlers of fishermen and kidnap fishermen for ransom in deep forests of the Sundarbans.
Over the last six months, a total of 72 members of eight robber gangs of the Sundarbans surrendered to law enforcers along with huge arms and ammunition.
