Gaibandha: Police on Saturday night arrested former chairman of Sundarganj upazila council, Ahsan Habib Masud, in connection with the killing of Gaibandha-1 lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton.

The Sundarganj Police Officer-in-charge Atiar Rahman said they detained Habib on Saturday night as he had been at loggerheads with Lawmaker Liton before the latter was slain.

Later, Habib was shown arrested in the gruesome murder case on Sunday morning, the OC added.

Liton was shot at point blank range by some miscreants at his village home at Masterpara in Bamandanga union of Sundarganj Upazila on 31 December.

The MP was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
