‘I am not a fugitive’: Salahuddin

Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed, who is now in police custody in Meghalaya, India, said Bangladesh government should not have asked Interpol to issue red alert against him.
Salahuddin Ahmed while talking with the journalists after completed a CT scan at the Civil Hospital in Shillong on Monday morning said, ‘I am neither a fugitive nor an absconding.’
He said that he has no idea why government issued red alert notice against him.
Salahuddin Ahmed, replying whether the local people of Shillong took him to the police said, ‘I sought help to them. They called the police.’
He also said he did not go to Shillong on his own. Some people left him blindfolded at Shillong.
BNP assistant office secretary Abdul Latif Jony said Salahduddin’s physical condition has not been stabled yet. He said, ‘Salahuddin is also suffering from kidney infection, skin disease, and heart disease. He is also physically weak. Doctors are examining him and they are carrying out some tests of him.’
Doctors will take necessary action examining the test result, said Abdul Latif Jony over phone.
Hasina Ahmed, wife of Salahuddin Ahmed, left Dhaka for Shillong, India, on Sunday night to meet her husband. Salahuddin’s brother-in-law Mahbubul Kabir Munmun also accompanied Hasina Ahmed to Shillong.
Earlier, Meghalaya police detained Salahuddin Ahmed on 11 May as he was roaming around aimlessly in Golf Links area in Shillong after nearly two months of his disappearance. Since he had no valid papers, identity proof or travel permit, he was detained by Meghalaya police and booked under the Foreigners Act.
On 12 May, BNP joint secretary general Salahuddin Ahmed who remained missing for over two months phoned his wife Hasina from Meghalaya Institute of Mental Health & Neurological Science (MIMHANS) of India.
