AL leader put on 2-day police custody over Nasirnagar attack
Brahmanbaria: A Brahmanbaria court on Tuesday placed an Awami League leader Suruj Ali on two-day police custody for quizzing in a case filed over attacks on Nasirnagar Hindus.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Shafiqul Islam issued the order when police produced Suruj Ali, president of Chapartala union unit Awami League, before the court, seeking a seven-day custody for questioning him.
Earlier, on Sunday night, Detective Branch of police arrested Suruj Ali from his residence in Chapartala area of Nasirnagar upazila.
A total of 107 people have been so far, arrested in connection with the Nasirnagar attack.
On 30 October, some unruly people demolished 15 Hindu temples and vandalised over 100 houses in the upazila following a Facebook post that allegedly hurt the religious sentiment of the Muslim community.
