Munshiganj: Kawrakandi ferry terminal will defunct after 30 years in operation as its replacement by Kanthalbari terminal will take effect from Sunday.

Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan will inaugurate Kanthalbari terminal within a few hours of the filing of this report at about 12:35pm.

The shifting of the ferry terminal from Kawrakandi to Kanthalbari will shorten the ferry route by 5 kilometer. The new route has been named Shimulia‐Kanthalbari Ilias Chowdhury ferry route.

Officials of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport (BIWTA) informed that the transfer of the ferry route cost them Tk 15 crore.

The parking yard, launch pier, passenger loading, ticket counter, toilet complex, bank protection, police box and other arrangements have already been set up at the new terminal.
