MP Liton murder: 2 suspects in 2-day custody

A Gaibandha court on Sunday placed two people on a two-day in custody each in a case filed over the killing of Gaibandha-1 lawmaker Manjurul Islam Liton.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Mainul Hasan Yusuf passed the order when investigation officer of the case Ashrafuzzaman produced them before the court with a seven-day remand prayer, reports UNB.
Those to be quizzed are — Jahirul Islam and Ashraful Islam.
Earlier, on January 12, members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested prime suspect Ashraful, son of Hazi Yunus, ameer of Sundarganj upazila unit of Jamaat and his associate Jahirul Islam in a case filed over the murder from Dhaka’s Badda area.
Later they were taken to Gaibandha.
Liton was shot at point blank range by some miscreants at his village home at Masterpara in Bamandanga union of Sundarganj Upazila on December 31, 2016.
The MP was admitted to Rangpur Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead.
