College girl stabbed in Sylhet

Sylhet: A college girl was stabbed by young man at Zakiganj upazila in Sylhet on Sunday following the refusal of his marriage proposal.
The victim was Jhuma Begum, 19, a student of Ichhamati Degree College and a resident of Rasulpur village in the upazila.
Zakiganj Police Station Officer-in-charge Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury told NTV Online that injured Jhuma was admitted into Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital on Sunday afternoon.
'Bahar Uddin, a student of the same college and son of Abdul Gafur Prochon of Rasulpur village, stabbed Jhuma and her mother was also injured in the incident. The attacker, however, managed to flee the scene before locals reached the spot. The phycisians said she is out of danger now,' added the OC.
Hospitalised Jhuma told NTV Online in the afternoon that Bahar Uddin have been teasing offering to marry her for one and half year. He stabbed her as she refused to accept his proposal. When her mother came to save her from the attack, she was also injured.
Bahar intercepted Jhuma at Kaliganj Bazar on her way home from the college and proposed marriage. As Jhuma refused the proposal, Bahar stabbed her indiscriminately, leaving her injured, added Jhuma.
Hearing the victim’s screams, locals rescued the girl and took her to Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital.
